Home rennovations

For those of you who have visited our home, you know that our house was sparsely decorated with furniture since we moved in. We literally had nothing of our own to fill it with in the beginning. Most of the furniture we had was given to us by very kind and generous people. For example, Charley traded a case of beer for a refrigerator (hey! we are in NC), we got Austin's bedroom set as a gift, we paid $35 dollars for our dining room set and we had some really hideous couches that I refer to as 1970's Hugh Hefner style (tacky burgundy leather). Well needless to say it all served a purpose. Those items I mentioned are not the extent of the generosity we have been privy to. In the series of pictures you are about to see there are more items that have been donated to us, yet gain. Anyone who says that humanity and kindness are gone, they could not be more wrong. I can't begin to say how thankful we are for everything we have!

These first pictures are in sequential order. The first couch was also a donation and was just a place to sit and not much more. The second picture is the "Hugh Hefner set", ugly but comfortable. At least they were until the cat used them as scratching posts, the dog peed several times in the arm chair and then out of sheer boredom he decided to dig a hole through one of the cushions. What a good dog?!? Porter (the dog) has been on serious probation ever since. Last but certainly not least is our current set of donated furniture. This set I have to say is a complete upgrade for the others before it. All I can say is, Thank God!

Next is our dining room, as I mentioned earlier we had purchased a small dinning set from one of Charley's friends. While bringing the set home, my dear husband was haulin'...well you know. While flying over a bump in the road "Ferris Bueller style" one of the chairs flew out of the truck and was turned into a pile of splinters. I love my husband! After we noticed we were one chair short, I took myself over to goodwill for a replacement chair. It was not a perfect match, but it did the job, and for 5 bucks who can complain. On to the good part... for the past few months we have been looking for a NEW dinning room set. Evey thing out there was really expensive. We couldn't bring ourselves to pay over a $1000.00 for a set. So we waited and waited, then one Sunday we were looking in the paper and found our new set for $500.00! It was the set I had seen in my head. I am so happy with it. Take a look.....

We are working on both of the children's room's, so that will be the next blog entry on Home renovations. Bye Y'all!
